Generative AI Policy

The Journal of Innovation in Research and Education (JIRE) recognizes the growing use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in research and scholarly communication. The journal supports the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of AI technologies while maintaining the integrity, originality, and accountability of academic work.

Acceptable Use of Generative AI

Authors may use Generative AI tools to assist with:

  • Language editing and grammar improvement.
  • Improving readability and clarity of text.
  • Formatting and organizational support.
  • Literature exploration and idea generation.
  • Translation assistance.

The use of AI should always remain under the direct supervision and responsibility of the author.

Author Responsibility

Authors remain fully responsible for:

  • The accuracy and integrity of all submitted content.
  • Verification of facts, citations, data, and references.
  • Ensuring that AI-generated content does not contain errors, fabricated information, or misleading statements.
  • Compliance with the journal’s ethical and publication standards.

The use of AI does not transfer responsibility from the author to the software or technology provider.

Disclosure Requirement

Authors must disclose the use of Generative AI tools if such tools have made a substantial contribution to the preparation of the manuscript.

The disclosure should be included in an appropriate section of the manuscript, clearly stating:

  • The name of the AI tool used.
  • The purpose for which the tool was used.
  • The extent of its contribution.

AI and Authorship

Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of a manuscript because they:

  • Cannot take responsibility for the work.
  • Cannot approve the final manuscript.
  • Cannot assume accountability for research integrity.
  • Do not meet accepted authorship criteria.

Only human contributors who meet authorship requirements may be listed as authors.

Prohibited Uses

The following uses of Generative AI are not permitted:

  • Fabrication or falsification of research data.
  • Generation of fake references or citations.
  • Manipulation of research findings.
  • Creation of misleading or deceptive content.
  • Undisclosed AI-generated text presented as entirely human-authored work.
  • Production of images, figures, or data that misrepresent research results.

Confidentiality and Data Protection

Authors should exercise caution when using AI tools and should not upload:

  • Confidential research data.
  • Sensitive participant information.
  • Personal or protected data.
  • Unpublished material that may compromise privacy or intellectual property rights.

Editorial and Reviewer Use of AI

Editors and reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts or unpublished content to public AI systems that may store, reuse, or disclose submitted material.

Editorial decisions and peer-review evaluations must remain the responsibility of qualified human editors and reviewers.

Compliance and Enforcement

Failure to disclose significant AI use or misuse of AI technologies may be considered a breach of publication ethics and may result in:

  • Manuscript rejection.
  • Request for correction or clarification.
  • Retraction of published articles where appropriate.
  • Further editorial action in accordance with the journal’s ethical policies.

JIRE encourages the responsible and transparent use of Generative AI while ensuring that scholarly integrity, originality, accountability, and ethical research practices remain at the center of academic publishing.
