Abstract

Background

Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) are artificial intelligence-driven educational technologies designed to provide personalized instruction, immediate feedback, and adaptive learning experiences. These systems emulate human tutoring processes and have emerged as powerful tools for enhancing student engagement and academic performance.

Objective

This study investigates the effectiveness of Intelligent Tutoring Systems in improving student engagement, learning outcomes, motivation, and satisfaction in higher education environments.

Methods

A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted among 1,500 students and 200 educators from universities utilizing Intelligent Tutoring Systems. Data were collected using structured questionnaires, learning analytics reports, and academic performance records. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed.

Results

Approximately 82.6% of students reported increased engagement when using ITS platforms. Personalized feedback (85.1%), adaptive content delivery (81.7%), and real-time learning support (79.8%) were identified as the primary contributors to enhanced engagement. Students using ITS demonstrated significantly higher academic performance and learning satisfaction compared to traditional learning environments.

Conclusion

Intelligent Tutoring Systems significantly improve student engagement, academic achievement, and personalized learning experiences. Strategic implementation and educator training are essential to maximize their educational benefits.
